Blue-singer-Lee-Ryan-has-been-charged-with-common-assault

The Blue singer Lee Ryan is accused of hitting his fiancee, 26-year-old Samantha Millar, in the face while in a car in London on Wednesday (18.08.10).

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed: "Lee Ryan, self-employed, of Henley-on-Thames, is due to appear on bail charged with common assault."

Samantha called police after the incident, and Lee was arrested at his home in south London after reportedly refusing requests to go for questioning.

The 27-year-old star ' who has a nine-month-old son Rayn with Samantha ' vehemently denies the charges.

His spokesperson said: "Lee 100 per cent denies common assault.

"He will be fighting theses charges in court".

The 'Army of Lovers' hitmaker is due to appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 27.

This is not the first time the singer has been in trouble with police.

He was arrested in December 2007 for assaulting a taxi driver.

He later appeared in court, where he was fined £300 and complained he 'felt targeted because he is famous'.

Last year, he was quizzed by police on suspicion of smoking cannabis.

Ricky Martin: 'I Am a Fortunate Homosexual Man'

After years of keeping quiet about his personal life, pop star Ricky Martin has announced that he is gay.

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," Ricky said in a message posted on his rickymartinmusic.com website

Ricky said writing his memoir and thinking about his two twin sons led him to go public.

"To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where [sic] born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment," he wrote.

Though the 38-year-old kept his sexuality private throughout most of his career, Ricky said he drew strength from that time.

"These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed," he continued. "What will happen from now on? It doesn't matter. I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment. The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me as of today. It has been a very intense process. Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment and real contentment. Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution."

Earlier this month, Barbara Walters told that her 2000 interview with the "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer, where she grilled him about coming out, was a misstep on her part.

"In 2000, I pushed Ricky Martin very hard to admit if he was gay or not, and the way he refused to do it made everyone decide that he was," she told The Toronto Star. "A lot of people say that destroyed his career, and when I think back on it now, I feel it was an inappropriate question."

Ricky also Tweeted a link to his coming out announcement on his Web site, simply writing, "my life."

In August 2008, Martin became the father of twin boys, named Matteo and Valentino. The babies were birthed by a surrogate mother.

After the success of Livin' la Vida Loca, Martin's personal life became a subject of interest due to his large gay following, and he was questioned about his sexual orientation. In a December 2000 interview with The Mirror, Martin was asked to comment on the rumors surrounding his sexuality. He replied that "I don't think I should have to tell anyone if I am gay or not, or who I've slept with or not."

On March 29, 2010, Martin publicly acknowledged his homosexuality in a post on his official web site by stating, "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am." Martin said that "these years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within, and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed." In 2010, prior to Ricky Martin coming out, Barbara Walters expressed some regret for pushing Martin — in a 2000 interview — to admit if he was gay. The Toronto Star quoted her as saying, "When I think back on it now, I feel it was an inappropriate question."

Life, death - now it's Diana the musical

MILLIONS of words have been written about the remarkable life and death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Now there may be a few songs as well. Diana's life story may be about to be turned into a Broadway musical. Former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, whose biography of the princess was a bestseller last year, is said to be behind plans to write a stage show based on her life. Theatre sources say Ms Brown's dream director is Stephen Daldry, who is taking the musical version of Billy Elliot to Broadway this year.

J Lo to Join 'American Idol' As Judge?

Jennifer Lopez will join "American Idol" as a judge next season, according to a report by Deadline Hollywood. If true, Lopez would be replacing Ellen DeGeneres, who announced her departure from the panel on Thursday afternoon (July 29).

Deadline reports that Lopez sealed her "American Idol" deal earlier this week, following a series of meetings orchestrated by the singer and actress' manager, Benny Medina. The website also reports that it was DeGeneres who asked Fox executives to be released from her contract, which committed the comedian and talk show host to judging "Idol" for one more year.

"She's not comfortable. She's not happy. It's not been fun," the execs were reportedly told by DeGeneres' camp.

At press time, "Idol" executives and Lopez's representatives did not respond to requests for comment. DeGeneres, meanwhile, explained her decision to leave "American Idol" in a statement on her website, saying that being a judge "didn't feel like the right fit for me," but adding, "I loved the experience working on 'Idol' and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."

Grand and humble tributes paid to Mohammed Rafi Sab

Rich tributes were paid to legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi on his 30th death anniversary today.

Over 9,000 musical tribute programmes were organised in July in memory of the singer, Binoo Nair, President of the Rafi Foundation, told PTI.

Rafi's fans visited his 'mazaar' at Bada Kabrastan in suburban Santacruz to pay homage.

The grave will not be dug, as planned earlier by mosque authorities, keeping in mind the sentiments of Rafi followers all over the world, Nair said.

Earlier this year the mosque authorities had said if Maharashtra Government did not allot additional land to be utilised as burial ground, they will have no other option but to dig the graves of prominent film
personalities, including Rafi. "However, this will not happen," Nair said.

Rafi: Ek Faristha tha woh, a book in Hindi penned by Dhirendra Jain, was released today. Nair said the book will be translated in Marathi, Urdu and English by December 24, the birth anniversary of the singer.

Remembering him, Asha Bhosale tweeted, "Rafisaab aapki Himalaya ki tarah bulund awaz aur aapka namra swabhav hume phir na sunne na dekhne milega. Aapki bahut yaad ati hai." (your voice touched Himalayan heights...we miss you a lot)."

A musical institute, Mohammed Rafi Academy, will be launched here tonight.

Apart from providing courses for singers, the academy will display exclusive pictures, videos and musical instruments of the great singer.

Rafi, born on December 24, 1924, is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the Hindi film music industry ever.

The multiple award winner died at a comparatively young age of 56, but in a career spanning four decades he sang around 34,000 songs
, including 9,000 non-filmi ones.

He sang in many languages, including Hindi, Konkani, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Maghi, Mathili and Telugu.
